Celebrate Our Progress! Burgers and Beer at Migration Brewing.

    May 7, 2018

This blog started almost two years ago.  Our first post was July 2016. Since then, many hundreds of Laurelhurst residents have canvassed every house in the neighborhood (remember that winter?); given and attended presentations and meetings; delivered, sent, written and read flyers, door hangers, emails and blog posts; met each other, worked together and become friends in a common cause.  Our neighborhood voted 83% to 13% in favor of becoming a National Register historic district and we elected a LNA board committed to carrying out this mandate.  We selected a consultant, did the necessary historical research, and completed the survey of every single house in Laurelhurst.  We fought off HB 2007 and we raised $62,000 to complete the nomination.

We are not done.  There is about a year to go, before Laurelhurst is listed as a Historic District in the National Register of Historic Places.  We have to finish the nomination, see it through state hearings and the National Park Service review, keep talking to our neighbors during the objection period, and we may well have to fight off another HB2007-like bill.  So it is not time to stop our work or let our energy flag.

What it is time to do is party.  This is fun, we're doing it with our friends and neighbors, and we can't ever stop enjoying ourselves.

So let's take an evening and celebrate how far we've come.

    CELEBRATION

    Migration Brewing

    May 16, 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

There will be an update on our progress and what's up next for the Nomination.  You'll learn all about the First Annual Historic House Tour in September and the new Laurelhurst Century House plaques coming in October.  We'll hear from the LNA board, who are all running for re-election to see this effort through. There will be wine baskets to raffle and some little appreciation gift-surprises for everyone.  We might even find the remaining Laurelhurst caps.

Most of all, we'll enjoy each others' company and get recharged for the final push.
